Topics in this section
This section focuses on the areas that many people deal with: landlord and tenant issues and small claims. We have resources for you, including being able to talk with an attorney for free as part of your membership.  We will also give you resources to avoid the courts.
Landlords and tenants. And You.
You're simply amazing for doing the work you do. You handle all the tasks and challenges of a typical landlord and/or property manager and then you perform the work of a counselor, a social worker, and often a friend.  So, you may not want to add the duties of a lawyer too.  Here are some of the typical forms used in rental situations that may help you stay out of the courts.

Evictions
The eviction process is not something you hope you never have to do.  With rents rising dramatically throughout California and San Diego,  it seems that people are getting evicted more over trivial matters.  Often they are people who cannot afford an attorney. Here is a sobering fact: In 2016, more than 440,000 people self represented themselves in court (not including small claims). Their primary reason was money.
What do you do, however, when it seems like this  is your only option. If it has gotten that far proceed. We have experience and are developing a tool kit to help members, who themselves, may need to self-represented plaintiffs.
Check out the section below on Evictions.

Resources
We're not lawyers.  We can't know all things about the law. Most lawyers don't either. It's still wise to learn what you can and when you need some counsel or quick answers, we have resources for our members. One of them is Rocket Lawyer.

  • Custom document  creation for most every form you may need.
  • Ability to talk with a lawyer about any issue.
  • Have your documents reviewed.Often, we create our own forms and then when it comes the time when we have to rely on them as a contract, we may find we made an error and it's not legally enforceable.

With Rocket Lawyer forms you don't have to worry because of their Document Defense Service. With Document Defense, you'll be able to enforce your contracts and have a Rocket Lawyer On Call attorney respond on your behalf if a dispute arises.

There is more information in your shared UpLift G-Suite account including how to gain access to the site. Don't have your free G-Suite/UpLift account? Sign up here. (It's a member requirement).

When education, encouragement, and engagement practices do not work as intended, mediation then enforcement through eviction may be the only course left.  In
